			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Sunday, April 15, 20 South Orlando Rowing Association rowers and coaches traveled to Sarasota, FL to compete in the <strong>State Championship Sculling Regatta</strong>.  Finishing 8<sup>th</sup> out of 32 teams in overall points, SORA beat all Central Florida teams who competed including Boone Crew, Lyman Crew, North Orlando Rowing and Orlando Area Rowing Society.</p>
<p>SORA rowers fought their way to Grand and Petite Finals in 7 events!</p>

<p>A special congratulations goes out to Travis Pulliam (Boone HS) and Nick Tom (Boone HS) who placed 3<sup>rd</sup> in the men’s Junior 2x (double) event.</p>
<p>The crew of Michael Sanchez (Boone HS) and Riley Messer (Olympia HS) placed first in the petite final of the Men’s Lightweight 2x posting a time faster than 4<sup>th</sup>- 6<sup>th</sup> place crews in the Grand Final of their event.</p>

<address>The South Orlando Rowing Association is proud to train Rob and Oksana on their Journey to represent the USA in the Paralympic Games (London).</address>

<address>Rob and Oksana are both bilateral above the knee amputees.  Rob lost his legs from an IED explosion while on patrol in Afghanistan (July 2010).  Adopted at the age of 7 from Ukraine, Oksana&#8217;s amputations are due to radiation poisoning in utero.</address>

<address>Rob and Oksana won their US Qualifying race on March 30 (Mercer Lake, NJ) to become National Team Members.  On Saturday, May 5, they WON their race in Belgrade, Serbia at World Championships.  Their convincing win over Brazil, Russia, Netherlands, and Argentina earned a spot for the USA (Rob and Oksana) to race in the London games. </address>

<address>Rob and Oksana made a commitment to training and <a href="http://boonecrew.com/archives/1861/rob-and-oksana-gold-for-web" rel="attachment wp-att-2049"><img class="alignright  wp-image-2049" title="rob and oksana gold for web" src="http://boonecrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/rob-and-oksana-gold-for-web-500x332.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" /></a>moved to Orlando on December 15 to train with SORA board members and coaches Justin Lednar and Katie Lednar.  With 8 practice per week on the water and three practices per week in the gym with SORA member Tina Fusser, SORA is very proud to be an integral part of a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP win and the American record for the Trunk and Arms Mixed 2x event.</address>

<p>All SORA athletes raced to personal best times including top three finishes in three events:</p>

<li>Blaine Weinmann &#8211; 1st place, women&#8217;s Coxswain 1,000m</li>
<li>Alyssa Combs &#8211; 3rd place, women&#8217;s 500m dash</li>
<li>Riley Messer &#8211; 3rd place, men&#8217;s ltwt 500m dash</li>
</ul>
<p>Additionally, Rob Jones and Oksana Masters (training with SORA to become the USA trunk &amp; arms 2x for the London Paralympic Games) both rowed record-setting times in their four events.</p>

<p>Parents and coaches hosted more than 3,000 athletes and spectators for a full day of racing, craft &amp; vendor sales and feeding regatta patrons our famous Gobbler Sandwich.</p>
<p>SORA rowers were busy winning 5 1st-place event trophies and brining home medals in 13 events. </p>
<p>First place wins included: Women&#8217;s Varsity 2x, Men&#8217;s Varsity 4x, Men&#8217;s HS Recreation 1x, Mixed Varsity 2x,  Womens Varsity 4+</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The South Orlando Rowing Association was strongly represented this past weekend, beating our drum loudly and cheering on our rowers as they finished in the top 1/2 of multiple events.</p>
<p>More than 20 SORA Rowers traveled to Chattanooga, TN to participate in the 31st annual Head of the Hooch Regatta. </p>
<p>Our men&#8217;s Varsity 4+ placed 18 out of 66 beating many local teams including Boone Braves, Edgewater High School, Lake Brantley High School, Lyman Crew, and OARS.</p>
<p>Our Women&#8217;s Varsity 4+ placed in the top 1/2 (34th out of 80 entries) of their event and were the 8th fastest Florida team!</p>
<p>SORA&#8217;s top weekend finish was in the Mixed Varsity 8+, placing just 1 second out of medal contention!</p>
<p>Middle School, Adult and High School SORA rowers will continue their successful season on November 19 at the Head of the Giblet Regatta which is hosted by SORA.</p>
